"Different trees, shared roots" was our theme for this year, as we reflected with students about how our lives connect with others’ lives at the other side of the globe…we asked ourselves: “What we can do as a community to unlearn, learn, create and question our thoughts on migration & refugees?”
Learning & Unlearning
I was asked critical, hard to answer questions by children as young as 4 years old like “why do refugees exist?” & “will refugees ever be able to feel at home again?”
As part of the event, an art market was set up with art made by students with 100% of the funds going towards organizations supporting refugees.
I involved our neighboring artists with disabilities in a collaboration to illustrate together and create art and then transfer these images onto objects to raise funds for refugee rights.
